Garden State Scholars Honored

The Manchester Township Board of Education, at their February meeting, honored 19 high achieving Manchester Township High School seniors who were selected under the Garden State Scholarship Program as Edward J. Bloustein Distinguished Scholars and Urban Scholars.

Garden State Scholars

Principal David Walling introduced the scholars, remarking, “Every student here not only excels academically, but they are involved in a variety of activities within our school, including athletics, the arts, clubs, and school and community service.  They are the heart and soul of our school.”

Superintendent of Schools, Dr. William DeFeo said, “This is a special night for us.  We are proud to honor these young people who truly represent what our school district is all about.”

Named as Bloustein Distinguished Scholars were: Matthew B., Lauren C., Todd C., William F., Megan H., and Katie L.  These students placed in the top 10% of their class and had a minimum combined SAT score of 1260, or were ranked first, second or third in their class, at the end of their junior year. 

Named as Urban Scholars were: Kristina A., Brittany B., Nichole D., Michele F., Timothy G., Genelle G., Amber H., Eliizabeth H., Christopher L., Ashley O., Matthew P., Robert R. and Alaina S.  These students ranked in the top 10% of their class and had a grade point average of at least 3.0 at the end of their junior year.

The Garden State Scholarship program offers these students an annual award of up to $1,000 annually for four years of secondary school at a New Jersey college or university.
