Fifth graders from MTES look at a real Van Gogh painting on a trip to the Philadelphia Museum of Art. The trip was organized by Alice McGlynn (art teacher). It was designed to tie into the curriculum. Mrs. McGlynn spoke to the museum beforehand to let them know the students had been studying European Artists. Each group was shown 4 - 5 paintings during the trip.
“The tour guides were extremely informative and interactive with the students. The students were engaged through the whole trip, asked and answered many questions and even completed an activity,” said teacher Mrs. Laura Weaver. “Our group did a picture scavenger hunt where they had to identify artistic elements of the paintings of Monet, VanGogh, and Matisse. It was a great trip and the teachers enjoyed it as much as the students!”
