Manchester Township Elementary School students raised over $13,000 for the American Heart Association through their annual Jump Rope for Heart event, once again making the school the number one fundraiser in Ocean County this year.
Over 400 students, or about 80% of the student body, had a great time jumping rope and performing other fun physical activities for the fundraiser, with sponsors making donations based on their participation. Outdoors, there was plenty of jump-roping, hula-hoops, sack races, and hippity-hop balls, while inside the gym there was hopscotch and even a moon bounce.
MTES has raised over $100,000 in 11 years of Jump Rope for Heart and has been among the top fundraisers in the state, according to organizer John Porteuse, a physical education teacher at the school. The top fundraising students at MTES this year were Daniel D., Dylan O. and Justin B. They are pictured at right with Mrs. Dyer, Andrea Jacobs from the Heart Association and Mr. Porteuse.
