Three Manchester Township High School students will take classes at Ocean County College this summer and fall for free under a pilot program to help outstanding students with economic need to participate in the college’s Jumpstart program. This program allows high school students to get a ‘jumpstart’ on college by earning college credits during their senior year.
The students will attend a summer orientation session and then take a college English class in the fall and a college Math class in the spring. Their tuition and books will be paid for under the grant.
Only 20 students in the county were selected to the program, which is targeted for students who have an economic need and good HSPA scores, and who are the first generation in their family to attend college, said Guidance Counselor Jane Williams.
