The new school year is upon the students and staff of the Middle School. There has been great deal of change this past summer.
The Middle School has a new master schedule and has gone from an 18 period day to a 9 period day. All classes are 40 minutes in length with the exception of Math and Language Arts. Math and Language Arts are 86 minutes in length. Those classes are 20 minutes longer. Every student will now have the same course selections grade 6 through 8. All students will have French, Spanish, Industrial Arts, Home Economics, Art and the STARS program. The students will be housed in teams with two houses per grade level. They will be working in smaller learning communities. The teams will consist of teachers in Language Arts, Math, Science and Social Studies. This is an exciting time and I am sure it will benefit the students educationally.
The Middle School is in the midst of painting and cleaning. The building looks wonderful and bright. The crew has worked hard to prepare for the coming school year.
I want to notify all parents of some important dates:
School Picture Day—September 13
Back to School Night—September 17
6:00 p.m.—Basic Skills parent meeting
6:30 p.m.—Regular Program
The Middle School is using Study Island (Studyisland.com) again this year. This is an online tutorial program. Please use this program at home as well as in school. We have seen great strides in test scores this past year. I encourage all students to continue and use this program.
Enjoy the remainder of the summer and we will see you on Sept. 6.
