Walking through the hallways at MTMS, you may be bump into a future Olympic swimmer! Seventh graders Casey G., Dana S., Lauren C., and Martha P., as well as 6th grader Sarah S. are on the YMCA Tiger Sharks swim team. Sisters Dayna and Sarah are also on the USA Swim Team and are Junior Olympians.

Casey described one of her most exciting moments on the swim team when she and her teammates had the opportunity to swim with members of the US Olympic Swim Team. The Olympians offered pointers to the girls and even swam with them during practice. The middle school swimmers also raced the Olympic swimmers in every stroke (freestyle, back stroke, butterfly stroke, and breast stroke.) The MTMS swimmers were givin a 1/3 head start to even out the competition. Casey beat Olympian Megan Jenrick in the freestyle stroke!
Dayna has been swimming for the past 4 years and specializes in the butterfly and freestyle strokes. She has received 60+ ribbons, 12 medals, and 2 trophies. She competes up and down the Eastern Seaboard from New Jersey to Florida. Dayna practices six days a week and competes almost every weekend year round. This commitment truly takes dedication and hard work. Her goal is to be the youngest person to make national times. She is only 1-2 seconds away from making that goal come true. Dayna's sister, Sarah, holds a record in the breaststroke.
Clearly, these girls are truly talented. One day we may see them representing our community winning gold medals at the Olympics!
