Third graders at Ridgeway Elementary School traveled the world on Continent Day, an event designed to enhance their social studies curricula. Each third grade classroom was set up as a continent, with Asia, Africa, Europe, and South America represented. Students traveled from continent to continent, getting their passports stamped and making notes in their travel journals. In Africa, they took a safari bus tour via video. In Asia, they tried to guess the meaning of Chinese pictographs and then created their own pictograph. In Europe, they played a game that involved identifying landmarks and geographic features, collecting souvenirs as prizes. In South America, they played a similar game and danced the conga.
