Naturalists Juta Nolan and Pat Korotky from Cattus Island Park visited Ridgeway Elementary School and brought along a few reptile friends. Fourth and fifth graders learned about reptiles native to Ocean County such as a black rat snake, a box turtle and a diamond back terrapin turtle. They learned about the animals’ natural habitats, diet, and life cycle. Students were able to touch snake skin and turtle shells.
The program was one of the first environmental science activities planned by Media Center Specialist Mrs. Geri Szoke as part of a $10,000 library grant from the OceanFirst Foundation.
