About Manchester Twp. Middle School

Manchester Township Middle School is located in the eastern end of the township next to the Ridgeway School. The school, nestled in the beginning of the Jersey Pine Barrens, is a two-story structure that opened its doors September 1, 1983, the first and only middle school in the township. When it opened it housed grades five through eight with a student population of 850, bringing to an end several years of split sessions and overcrowding in a township that literally "took off" overnight. However, within two years we were bursting at the seams.

Our school like everything else has experienced many changes over the years. In 1992, with the opening of a new elementary school (MTES) we said good-bye to the fifth grades and became more of a true Middle School, housing grades six through eight. 

Downsizing at the Lakehurst Naval base, which is in our back yard, changed our make-up from a sizeable transient population to a more settled one, allowing families to utilize the entire school system and our staff to enjoy the siblings of students they remember fondly.

Today our student population numbers around 780 with a staff of 75, composed of administrators, teachers, and support staff. We are proud to offer our students a complete, well-rounded education. Besides the basics we offer a varied exploratory package with something different for each grade level, two computer labs and a media lab, all with internet access; an interscholastic sports program and numerous clubs and after school activities.

A new 18-classroom wing was opened in 2005, featuring an additional computer lab and science lab classrooms.  The cafeteria and media center have also been renovated.
