2008 NJ School Report Card for RS
The Ridgeway Elementary School provides its students with a variety of programs designed to make real life connections and to augment their intellectual, social and emotional skills. In addition to reading/language arts, mathematics, social studies and science, our students have the opportunity to participate in vocal and instrumental music, art, physical education activities, and world language instruction. Technology instruction is integrated throughout the curriculum. Ridgeway School has a computer lab, additional computers in the Media Center and internet access in each classroom.
Ridgeway School utilizes a variety of resources to insure an excellent education for all our students. In addition to our regular staff members, classroom volunteers are used extensively throughout the school. These volunteers are comprised of parents, local senior citizens, community members and high school students. Within our school “peer tutors” are used across the grade levels. Older students work with many of our younger students, an experience that is mutually beneficial to both students. An after care program is offered at the school through Monmouth-Ocean Educational Services Commission to meet family needs.
Several additional programs are also in place during school hours and before or after school. Ridgeway School has a banking program in collaboration with Wachovia Bank. Students are applying their mathematical skills to real life experiences and learning responsibility as they save for the future. NJ ASK 3 and NJ ASK 4 test preparation programs provide test taking strategies and problem solving techniques that assist the students in meeting the challenges of the state testing requirements. Kindergarten Project Success is an extended day program that provides an additional 40 minutes every day to increase academic readiness skills. Ridgeway also has an AM and PM Preschool Disabilities class. There is a “No More Bullies” program that involves staff members, students and parents. This is designed to further insure the safety and well being of all our students. Our CORE after school program gives students an opportunity to learn cooperative skills and tolerance for others.
The staff at Ridgeway Elementary School has continued to review, update and revise curriculum, programs and methods of assessment. District curriculum committees analyze the core curriculum standards and the district’s curricula. This is an ongoing process that ensures that all the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards are being addressed within our curriculum. Ongoing staff development is provided at building and district levels with the primary focus on differentiating instruction for our students and enhancing writing skills. Our academic expectations are high and students are taught higher order thinking skills and problem solving strategies. We are preparing our students to meet the challenges of the future with success and to enable them to become productive citizens.
