Business Academy
Manchester Township High School Business Department is offering a Business Academy. This Business Academy will offer a Certification to all students that complete the required pathway. A student will have the opportunity to have a concentration in one of four areas: General Business, Finance, Administration, and Marketing.

Intro to Business
Intro to Business Video Description
Grade 9-12
5 Credits
This course is designed for students interested in entering the business sector. It will equip students with sound business practices and entrepreneurial skills that will help them succeed in running a business. Students will actively study how to plan, form, finance, and market a business in the global marketplace and create their own business plans. Various career opportunities in business will be explored.
Accounting I
Grade 10-12
5 Credits
This course is intended to introduce the students to both business terminology and practices plus the nature, function, and procedures of basic accounting. It will explore the various career opportunities available in the accounting profession. Students will be trained in the double entry method of accounting preparation. Computer technology will be infused throughout the course via a software program. Students will also be guided on the use of accounting practices in handling personal financial matters.
Accounting II
Grade 11-12
5 Credits
The semester is spent in expanding and adapting the basic accounting records to provide for detailed classification analysis and interpretations of financial information. These sections will give special attention to the characteristics and special needs of single ownerships and corporations. The second semester will explain the basic accounting theory and will study specialized journals and ledgers. Students will not only go through the mechanics of accounting but will see how financial data is analyzed from a managerial standpoint. It is intended to develop knowledge, skills and attitudes for entrance jobs in an accounting department as well as preparing college prep students for beginning college accounting.

Business Law

Business law aims to give the student a basic understanding of both a person's legal rights and legal responsibilities. After a basic introduction to the law and our legal system, the course will emphasize the many aspects of contract and consumer law as applied to various business situations. Warranties, employment, consumer purchasing and credit, and criminal law are topics also covered.

Computer Applications & Web Design
Grades 10 – 12

The course will cover the use of Computer Apps in the Classroom; such as Google Drive, Forms, Slides, Sheets, Sites, Calendars, YouTube, Maps, Blogger, Keep, and Google +. The teacher will provide a hands-on tutorial on how to use each application to the fullest capabilities. Students will learn how to create a Website using Google Sites. This will provide each student the opportunity to create a portfolio that will convey the range of abilities, attitudes, experiences, and achievements throughout their high school career. The students will leave the classroom with the knowledge, ability, and skills to succeed in high school using Computer Apps and Web Design.
Personal Financial Literacy

This course is designed to promote personal financial literacy. This course will use authentic projects to enhance the productivity of the learner. Activities in this class will help students prepare for major financial events throughout their lives such as: buying a car, saving and paying for college, managing the employment process, obtaining benefits and insurance, renting versus buying, handling an unexpected financial crisis, understanding credit scores and financing, reducing debt, protecting against identity theft, planning for retirement. Personal finance students will expand their knowledge of income and careers, money management, household budgeting, banking, stocks, consumer credit and credit card protection. The approach throughout the course will be to construct real life scenarios and simulations to provide an interactive study of basic economic principles. Students will develop knowledge and convert it to working applications.
Marketing - Sports, Entertainment, Commerical
Marketing - Sports, Entertainment, Commercial
Grades 9-12

This course will emphasize overall marketing concepts in the sports, entertainment, and commercial industries focusing on real world business perspectives. Students will explore the seven functions of marketing management; finance, personal, selling, promotion, distribution, pricing, and product and the importance of the industry and the role it plays in our society. Also, an emphasis will be placed on the following principles as they apply to the industry: branding, licensing, and naming rights; business foundations; concessions and on-site merchandising; economic foundations; promotion; safety and security; and human relations. Marketing simulations, projects and teamwork activities provide many opportunities for application of instructional competencies.

Intro to Investing
Grades 9-12

Students will understand the securities markets and the investment environment. They will learn to evaluate return, risk and modern portfolio concepts. Students will be able to analyze stocks, bonds, mutual funds, valuation techniques, and derivatives (options). Students will be able to understand and create an investment portfolio and manage that portfolio. The following are a few course objectives: a) acquire a thorough basic knowledge of investments and the securities markets by the end of the course, b) become familiar with the theories presented as well as practical applications, and c) gain an ability to evaluate different investment vehicles while recognizing the inherent risks in each and weighing them appropriately against the potential return.

Entrepreneurship

Students will learn to developing a business plan, with a strong financial focus. Students will focus on critical basic business skills such as communications, negotiating, business ethics, social responsibility, and goal setting. Students will understand the process of analyzing a business opportunity, preparing a business plan, determining feasibility of an idea using research, and developing a plan to organize and promote the business and its products and services. Students will walk through the entrepreneurial process of ideation, business model validation, creation, operation, and growth.

Social Media Marketing
Grades 9-12
2.5 Credits
Students will learn state of the art social media marketing principles from a strategic marketing perspective. Students will learn strategies needed to manage a company’s social media activities and deliver real value to the company and its customers. This course is designed to help students understand how marketing has (and has not) changed due to the rise of social media. It will equip students with relevant knowledge, perspectives, and practical skills required to develop marketing strategies that leverage consumer to consumer social interactions. The students will complete and study case studies which will display the principles taught within the real-world.

Micro-Economics
Grades 9-12
2.5 Credits
Students will learn microeconomics concepts and analysis, supply and demand analysis, and the study of individual decision making as it applies to the business and the economy. This course will provide practical answers to why individuals and businesses make certain decisions within the market.
