OPTION 2

* For every class/period a student is absent for, the student is required to make up 1 hour. For example: Harold Hawk was absent in Biology class 12 times, and 13 times in Math. Therefore, Harold Hawk needs to make up 3 hours (anything above 9 needs to be made up) for Biology, and 4 hours for Math, with a total of 7 hours to make up.
If a student has accrued the maximum number of absences, both excused and unexcused, for a course and has received a grade of NC (no credit) for that course the student may appeal the credit denial. Attendance appeal hearings will be conducted periodically throughout the year. In order to be considered for an attendance appeal, students must obtain and complete an Attendance Appeal Request Form (forms are also available in the attendance office; adjacent to the main office). Forms need to be filled out completely or the student appeal will not be considered. The Attendance Committee will review each student’s attendance appeal eligibility.
Students/parents must be able to account for each and every absence during the school year up to the date of the appeal hearing. Class grades, attendance improvements and adherence to attendance contracts will also be considered. Please be reminded that, as per the state law, having a passing average is not the only factor in whether a student is awarded credit and that attendance of classes is also a requirement for course completion. If an appeal is approved, the student shall receive the grade he/she has academically earned for the class and the grade of NC will be removed. Students whose credit is reinstated must adhere to the terms of their attendance contracts to recover lost credits. If the appeal is denied the student will receive a grade of NC for their course(s) in which he/she has excessive absences. IMPORTANT: Cutting classes will severely impact students’ eligibility for credit restoration.
