Congratulations Charlene O’Hara!
The Manchester Township Board of Education honored Charlene O’Hara as the Manchester Township Middle School Educational Support Professional of the Year at their November 2020 meeting. Mrs. O’Hara has been a paraprofessional in the district for 25 years.
Introductory remarks by Steve Ninivaggi, MTMS Vice Principal
It is with great pleasure and pride that I introduce the Manchester Township Middle School's 2019-2020 Educational Services Professional of the Year, Mrs Charlene O'Hara. It is well deserved. For 25 years she has demonstrated leadership both as a member of our staff and as a member of the Manchester community. I am sure her husband Glenn is here tonight and her sons Kevin and Tim, both Manchester graduates, and her six grandchildren are all very proud of her.
If anyone wants to understand the positive impact a paraprofessional can have on a child's education then just observe Charlene at work in the classroom she is an effective member of the instructional team who collaborates with teachers and colleagues in maintaining a supportive learning environment. Charlene engages the whole child and understands that learning can often mean meeting a child's academic and social emotional needs. What really makes Charlene stand out is how she builds positive and productive relationships with her colleagues.Teachers often request for her to be in their classroom because of how extremely knowledgeable she is about teaching and students and she often provides them with thoughtful suggestions that will benefit struggling students.
Charlene has worked with every type of student over the years at every level in our building and one thing is consistent, her caring attitude and her ability to really listen to children and make them feel heard. As a result she is often able to reach the most challenging students and understand that and her input is invaluable to teachers, counselors, and administrators who are trying to find ways to support those children so they can succeed.
On behalf of her Manchester middle school familyIi want to thank her for her positivity, dedication and professionalism. Congratulations Charlene.
Remarks by Charlene O’Hara
First I'd just like to thank Anne Laudien for nominating me. Nancy Driber and Steve Ninivaggi for choosing me. On a day-to-day basis I think paraprofessionals are sometimes overlooked for the positive impacts we have on our students and the contribution we make in our classrooms. We come with different strengths; some are more academic, others are more nurturing and some are a combination of the two, but we're all important in our different roles. And ceremonies such as this, being appreciated, means so much. Thank you.
