SEPAG Honors Mr. Lokerson

At the December Board of Education meeting, MTHS student Ava Bullis and MTMS student Marin Brooks presented retiring Special Services Director Ollie Lokerson with a gift on behalf of the district's SEPAG (Special Education Parent Advisory Group). Lokerson has worked in the district for 47 years and was attending his final Board meeting before retiring.

Bullis explained the gift of a set of poker chips, "For those who know him, you know Mr. Lokerson loves to keep it old school and values the message of Rick Lavoie called the Poker Chip Theory. This theory focuses on building self esteem and encourages seeing the value in the lives of every student. We wanted to leave you with this gift to remember the families of Manchester. We also hope this will serve as a reminder as you continue to educate future educators."

"On a personal note, I would like to thank Mr. Lokerson and Mr. Trethaway for believing in me when I moved here and for documenting my experience that is now used as a resource for professionals working with children with Usher Syndrome all over the world. We are wishing you both the best as you retire and thank you for your years of service in the Manchester School District."
