Superintendent's Update on School Reopening (7-1-2020)

Dear Staff, Parents, and Students,

On Friday, June 26, Governor Murphy revealed a plan for the reopening of schools in September. We will be reviewing this plan, which allows students to return to school for in-person instruction under a variety of conditions designed to ensure the health and safety of students and staff.  While there are directives for all schools in New Jersey, the plan also permits flexibility which allows each district the opportunity to develop a plan that would meet the unique needs of their community and their school district.

One of the recommendations from the Governor’s plan is to establish a Restart Committee for the purpose of developing a unique plan for each district.  Additionally, we will be establishing various sub-committees that will address specific areas and specific schools in our district.

While we all are looking forward to having students back in our buildings and receiving in-person instruction by our staff, at this time we will need to plan for a variety of changes to ensure the safety of our students and staff and to meet the requirements put forth by Governor Murphy and the New Jersey Department of Education.  While the start of school is two months away, there is much planning and work that needs to be done to get ready for students in September.  As this situation continues to develop we will be looking for input from our parents, staff and students to help us develop procedures that will best meet the needs of our community.  We also will be working with township officials as well as the Ocean County Board of Health to get guidance on a variety of topics.

Please continue to check our website to get accurate  information about the ongoing progress of the reentry plan, and invitations to provide input on specific areas either through surveys or participating on a committee.  I know this is a stressful time for all of our families in Manchester, but be assured that you will be informed of the plans before they are implemented and you will be given an opportunity to express your concerns and suggestions. Your input is extremely important in developing the procedures that we need to have in place for a very different but successful opening of the school year.

I encourage you to visit the New Jersey Department of Education Website at Restart and Recovery Plan for Education to review the Governor’s plan and get more information.

Thank you for your continued support and I look forward to working with you to ensure we have the best plan possible for our Manchester Township School Community.
