End of Year/Graduation Update - Senior Class Photo June 22
Dear Parents, Staff, and Students,
As we approach the final days of a very unusual and challenging school year, I would like to take this opportunity to update you on some of the end of the year activities. I believe that individual school information has been posted on our web site in regards to students dropping off and picking up items from the schools. I would like to express my appreciation to the staff, students and parents for their cooperation as this process has been running smoothly.
I would like to first congratulate the High School Administrators and the graduation committee staff for their efforts in providing a very special, unique and professional graduation ceremony for each student and their parents. The graduation program will be presented on Monday, June 22 at 6:30 p.m. - find the link on the Class of 2020 senior hub section of our website. As I discussed previously, a copy of the program will be available at a later date to all seniors, free of charge.
SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT - Senior Photo
While the individual senior graduation ceremonies were very special and allowed the parents to get a very personal experience with their child, one of the events that we were unable to hold was the gathering of the seniors as a whole class for a class picture in their cap and gown. This is a tradition at Manchester and each year’s graduating class picture is displayed on the wall of the high school. Recently, Governor Murphy announced that on June 22, the number allowed for an outdoor ceremony will be increased. Because of this great news, we will be arranging for the entire senior class to report to the high school football field for a class picture on June 22. This can only be possible under very strict guidelines that have been set down by the Board of Health and they must be followed. This includes the wearing of masks, social distancing of six feet and only students can attend the event. Mr. Adams will be sending out the specific information on Thursday, June 18 and it is critical to follow the directions given. This is great news and we are excited for our seniors. At the conclusion of the picture and as the seniors are leaving, they will be given their diploma and their yearbook.
Senior Award Ceremony
The Senior Award ceremony will be presented on Thursday, June 18 at 6:30 on TV 21 and the district YouTube Channel - find the link on the senior hub page. The recipients can pick up the awards on Friday, June 19 from 8:30 a.m to12 p.m. at the side entrance of the High School by the Guidance Department.
Unfortunately, there have been no major changes in the capacity for indoor events and therefore the prom is cancelled. I understand that the senior class has raised money for this and other events and these funds will be available to the senior class once we receive the guidelines for their use. I will keep you posted on this.
Again, I would like to thank the parents for their cooperation and the support for our district and their children through some very challenging times. I want to wish all of our seniors good luck as they pursue the next chapter of their life and I look forward to seeing the underclass students in September.
