To Parents and Guardians,

Welcome to the school year. I am very excited to have you and your child as part of the RDS Family. My name is Traci Fuller and I will be your son or daughter’s physical education teacher this year. My goal in physical education is for everyone to learn to make healthy choices and feel successful when participating in a variety of activities.  This enables students to develop a positive attitude toward physical activity and to develop healthy habits, which will hopefully continue throughout their lives. The physical education program is also designed to lead students to an active healthy lifestyle that promotes a lifelong commitment to wellness. In order to provide the best possible experience for your child, we must all work together as a team! Please remind your child to dress appropriately for physical education each day.  For comfort and safety purposes, he/she should wear running shoes with rubber soles. Your child’s classroom teacher will inform you of the days your child has physical education.

Students will be encouraged to have fun and enjoy PE.  They will also be encouraged to participate to the best of their ability in a wide variety of activities.

Basic introductory skills for the following activities will be taught:  1)stretching, and relay games; 2) fitness activities; 3) jump rope; 4) organized games and activities – volleyball, baseball, kickball, soccer, and basketball; 5) cooperative games; and 6) recreational activities – bowling, badminton, Frisbee, horseshoes.

In the coming school year, your child will be making decisions that impact his or her physical, emotional, mental and social health. The purpose of the Health education class is to provide students with the knowledge and resources they need to make responsible and well-informed decisions about their health. As the course progresses, students will be asked to explore their values, opinions and beliefs about health. An understanding of what constitutes good health and the conscious decisions individuals make in order to reach and maintain a state of wellness will influence your child’s decisions for the rest of his or her life. It is my goal as your child’s health teacher to give them the knowledge needed to empower and strengthen them to make wise decisions concerning their health. I welcome your child to a new school year with many opportunities for growth and skills they can use in the quest for lifelong health and wellness.
