Last Friday was recognized as the first Dolly Day, named after the late country musician Dolly Parton. Set on 9/25 as a nod to her smash hit, “9 to 5,” the celebration called participants all over the country to wear pink, perform random acts of kindness, and embody the spirit of community that Dolly was famous for.
The Manchester Township School District also took part, paying tribute to the iconic musician and the many years she spent supporting education.
Manchester Township High School hosted a DIY faculty spirit day, as staff were encouraged to “dress like Dolly.” In the spirit of giving, National Honor Society student leaders walked the school, visiting classrooms with their Dolly Trolley and distributing treats that were donated by students and families!
At Whiting Elementary School, staff and students celebrated “925 Day,” wearing pink as an homage to Dolly and her vibrant fashion. Uniting the school in something as simple as dress reflected Dolly’s beliefs in unity and expression, a strong reminder of her bright personality and positive attitude.
Dolly Parton had a long history of supporting schools and education through her Dollywood Foundation, including the Imagination Library, Buddy Program, and many other literacy and disaster relief initiatives. Though she may be gone, her spirit lives on in the staff and students who work hard every day to support and better their community.
