While clouds gathered overhead at Island Beach State Park, they could not cast a shadow on the day as students, staff, and families from Regional Day School (RDS) gathered to attend the National Hunting and Fishing Day celebration. Wind blew, waves rolled in, and lines were cast as the New Jersey Beach Buggy Association (NJBBA) marked its 53rd year hosting the event, which has become an honored tradition for RDS.

Leading the event, NJBBA volunteers took time to work with students one-on-one, explaining the basics of fishing while encouraging them with cheers and smiles. They also shared their knowledge of the beach and ocean environments, connecting the days’ activities to the importance of outdoor recreation and conservation. Whether or not they caught a fish, every student got to take home a wonderful experience and deeper appreciation of the shore.

When it came time for lunch, everyone had the opportunity to sit together and celebrate the students’ efforts. With patience, kindness, and community-mindedness, the NJBBA succeeded in turning a simple beach day into a lifelong memory for everyone who attended this year’s National Hunting and Fishing Day.
We would like to thank the NJBBA and every volunteer who makes this day an annual highlight for our RDS families.
