Gifted and talented students in grades 4 and 5 from all three Manchester Township elementary schools visited the Manchester Firehouse this week for an exciting hands-on engineering adventure: The Egg Drop Challenge!

Students were tasked with designing and building a contraption that could protect a raw egg dropped from 100 feet, the full height of the extended fire truck ladder. Using materials of their choice and constructing their devices entirely by hand, students put their creativity and engineering minds to work.

With energy and anticipation building, Manchester’s local fire heroes raised the ladder and released each student’s egg contraption one by one. From the ground below, students watched closely, some hopeful, some nervous, as their designs made the dramatic journey downward. Cheers, laughter, and a few suspenseful splats made the morning both educational and unforgettable.

This event offered students a unique opportunity to apply problem-solving skills, creativity, and engineering concepts in a real-world setting while partnering with the first responders who serve our community.

Manchester Township School District is so grateful for the Manchester Fire Department and their partnership in offering the space for this hands-on learning experience that challenged students, sparked innovation, and brought STEM learning to life.
