The Manchester Township High School (MTHS) Hawks aren’t just heating things up on the football field this summer, they are warming hearts all over town!

Last week, our Hawks hit the field for the annual All-Shore Gridiron Classic, where Head Coach Tommy Farrell led the Ocean County Team in a spirited and fun-filled showdown. But while the touchdowns and tackles were exciting, the real win came after the final whistle blew.

That’s because these student-athletes swapped helmets for helpfulness and took their teamwork off the field and into the community.

Now in its third summer, the helping Hawks initiative is back with Technology 101! This week, 30 of our players made a special stop at Willow Hall in Leisure Village West, where a group of residents eagerly awaited their arrival, smartphones and tablets in hand. The growing tradition pairs MTHS football players with local senior citizens for some good old-fashioned tech TLC. From resetting passwords to finding lost apps, the players patiently walked residents through their digital dilemmas, while chatting about the upcoming season, of course.

The atmosphere was part tech support, part pep rally, and 100% heart.

One resident put it best: “They’re not just great athletes, they are great young men.”

“Being a great teammate isn’t just being a fellow player on the field but also a fellow player within the community. It is important to build team camaraderie while answering this call to action by giving back as the young leaders they are on and off the field,” says Head Coach Tommy Farrell. “Volunteering is never mandatory for our players, so to see half of our team show up today makes me proud.”

Here’s to another summer of connection, community, and a team that knows how to lead both on and off the field. Go Hawks! 💙💛
