The Manchester Township High School (MTHS) Athletic Department’s Track and Field program is proud to announce that freshman Patrick Allen qualified for the New Balance Indoor Nationals, one of the most prestigious high school track events in the country.

Allen’s qualifying performance in the 1600m clocked in at a blistering 4:32.5. In a sport where the margins are measured in fractions of a second, this time placed him 30th in the nation out of approximately 10,000 freshman competitors across the United States.

To earn a lane at New Balance Nationals, athletes must meet a rigorous qualifying standard that places them well within the top 1% of all high school runners. Allen’s accomplishment is particularly noteworthy given the hurdles he faced this season; due to a minor injury sustained outside of track and field, he was forced to compete on a heavily abbreviated schedule. Despite the limited opportunities to race, Allen maximized his time on the track to secure his spot and performed strongly among the country's elite during March’s event.

"We are incredibly proud of Patrick’s resilience and his ability to perform at a national level despite the challenges he faced this winter," says Jason Griffith, MTHS Boys Running Coach. "By participating in Nationals, he joined the distinguished list of Manchester athletes who have carried our colors to the national stage. It is a testament to his talent and the culture of excellence within our program."

With the indoor season concluding, Allen is already shifting his focus to the outdoor season. He has set his sights on a dual-threat campaign, aiming to qualify for Outdoor Nationals in both the 800m and 1600m.

Based on his freshman indoor campaign, the future of Manchester Township High School’s distance running looks exceptionally bright. He is currently on the verge of qualifying for another National opportunity in June. Congratulations, Patrick!
