Manchester Township High School Principal Jamie Brown and MTHS teacher and MTEA President Dan Staples recently participated in Teachers Understanding Deployment Operations (T.U.D.O.S.), an immersive experience designed to help educators better understand the realities of military deployment and its impact on students and families.
Held on August 21, T.U.D.O.S. allowed participants to experience several aspects of the deployment process, including simulated deployment processing, military demonstrations, equipment displays, information sessions and briefings, and a taste of Meals Ready to Eat (MREs).
Educators also learned about the emotional phases of deployment and how those experiences can affect students in the classroom. The event concluded with a family-style homecoming experience, reinforcing the journey that military service members and their families experience throughout a deployment.
For Manchester Township School District educators, the experience provided valuable perspective and insight that can help strengthen the support provided to the district’s military-connected students and their families.
