Good deeds bring us together through positive and meaningful actions.
As we mark the 24th anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks, we pause to remember the lives lost and honor the heroic efforts of first responders and everyday citizens. This solemn day, now recognized as the National Day of Service, invites all Americans to come together through acts of kindness, unity, and service.
To honor this day in a meaningful way, Ridgeway Elementary School is launching a special “Pay It Forward” initiative, inspired by the classroom project of Ms. Laurie McAvoy. We invite our students and families to take part in this tribute by participating in a random act of kindness that helps turn a day of tragedy into one of compassion, community, and hope. This initiative not only honors the memory of 9/11 but also empowers students to be active participants in building a more caring and connected community.
How to Participate
Step 1: Do a Good Deed
With the help of an adult, perform a random act of kindness for someone in your life or community. This can be something simple yet meaningful—helping a neighbor, writing a kind note, donating items, or any thoughtful gesture.
Step 2: Capture the Moment
Have someone take a photo of you while completing your act of kindness. This photo may be shared to inspire others in our school community.
Step 3: Pass It On
After completing your good deed, give your recipient a “Pay It Forward” coupon (provided by the school). Encourage them to continue the chain by doing something kind for someone else.
Step 4: Reflect on Your Experience
Write a short paragraph reflecting on your experience. Please include:
A description of your act of kindness
Who the recipient was (if known)
Their reaction
Describe how the experience made you feel
Step 5: Submit Your Project
Email your photo and reflection paragraph to Ms. Thiffault, Principal, at Dolphins@mtschools.org by Monday, September 22nd.
A Note to Parents & Guardians
By submitting your child’s photo and reflection, you acknowledge and grant permission for the image to be shared publicly on the Manchester Township School District’s website, social media channels, and local media as part of our tribute to the National Day of Service.
We thank you for supporting this meaningful project and helping our students understand the lasting power of kindness.
