Manchester Township School District's preschool students are diving into their Trees Study as part of the Creative Curriculum, and this season offers a wonderful opportunity for young learners to explore nature right on their school grounds.
As part of the study, students first shared what they already knew about trees and were encouraged to ask, “What do you want to know about trees that you don’t already know?” Throughout the fall, they explored tree parts, growth and seasonal changes, the creatures that live in trees, and everyday items made from trees.
This month, students extended their learning with nature walks, classroom activities, and visits to on-site pumpkin patches. A highlight of the study was a special visit from a Naturalist from Cloverdale Parks, who came to all Whiting Elementary School preschool classrooms last week to discuss local trees in the Ocean County Parks System. Students eagerly asked questions, shared their classroom discoveries, and enjoyed hands-on learning with an expert in the field.
It was an engaging and memorable day, giving our youngest learners a real-world connection to the natural world around them!
