Today, Mrs. Cataldo's preschool class at Whiting School enjoyed a very special hands-on learning experience as they harvested their school garden with the help of our wonderful “Super Volunteer,” Tammy Rousseau, a recent recipient of the MTSD's Labor Management Collaborative's 2026 Friend of Education Award.

The children were excited to pull up fresh vegetables they had helped care for throughout the season. Together, they harvested bright orange carrots, crisp cauliflower, and leafy green cabbage. Their excitement and curiosity made the garden come alive with learning and discovery.

After harvesting, the class turned their fresh produce into tasty treats. The children helped prepare homemade coleslaw using the cabbage, enjoyed crunchy carrots with ranch dressing, and even tried cauliflower pizza from Vinnie’s Pizzeria. It was a delicious way to celebrate the fruits (and vegetables!) of their hard work.

The day was filled with smiles, teamwork, and a strong sense of accomplishment as the children saw how food grows from garden to table.
