Summer break brings about opportunities in the MTSD for learning across the school district through its annual Jump Start and Extended School Year (ESY) programs.
Both programs help students stay engaged over the summer while preparing for a successful school year. Jump Start supports eligible students by helping bridge the gap between grade levels, reinforcing key academic skills and building confidence before the new school year begins. The district's Extended School Year (ESY) program provides eligible students with opportunities to maintain academic progress, strengthen social skills, and continue learning throughout the summer.
A highlight of the program is the annual trip to Field of Dreams, where students from Manchester Township High School, Manchester Township Middle School, and the district's elementary schools enjoyed a day of learning, exploration, and fun. Designed for individuals with special needs and their families, the privately owned park offers inclusive attractions including playgrounds, a music area, miniature golf, an aquarium, and beautiful gardens.
“Our Extended School Year and Jump Start programs provide students with meaningful opportunities to continue learning throughout the summer months,” said Jill Moore, Director of Special Services. “These programs help students maintain the skills they have developed during the school year while receiving the support they need as they prepare for the year ahead. Our annual trip to Field of Dreams is a wonderful example of how we extend learning beyond the classroom and provide students with opportunities to connect with others while enjoying a special place created with their needs in mind.”
The outing gave students an opportunity to enjoy the outdoors, stay active, socialize with classmates, and create lasting summer memories while supporting the goals of the MTSD ESY program.
Through programs like Jump Start and ESY, Manchester Township School District continues to provide meaningful learning opportunities that help students grow academically, socially, and emotionally throughout the summer months.
