Football Heroes

When a Leisure Village West resident took a sudden fall this summer, it was a team of Manchester Township High School (MTHS) football players who rushed to help. The student-athletes, fresh from volunteering at the community’s Technology 101 session, acted quickly and compassionately, earning praise at the Manchester Township School District’s August Board of Education Meeting as true hometown heroes.

The Hawks were on hand at Leisure Village West as part of a growing tradition: Technology 101, a program that pairs student-athletes with senior citizens for some tech support and one-on-one connections. But this year, the teamwork went far beyond smartphones and tablets.

“They didn’t even think twice about helping a resident in need; they just acted to provide swift assistance,” said Superintendent Diane Pedroa. “That shows the kind of caring character we strive for from our students.

The players’ quick response not only brought comfort to the resident in need but also embodied the Manchester Township School District’s motto: Excellence by Example.

From the field to the community, these Helping Hawks are proving that true champions shine brightest when they step up for others.
