Cataldo Class Butterfly Lesson - WES Preschool

Students in Mrs. Cataldo’s Universal Preschool class at Whiting Elementary School had a special visitor today! As part of their Creative Curriculum, the class has been exploring the life cycle of a butterfly.

Whiting resident and class “Grandma,” Ms. Tammy, who has a passion for raising butterflies, reached out to Mrs. Cataldo with exciting news: some of her butterflies were about to hatch. Mrs. Cataldo invited her to visit the class and share the experience with the preschoolers.

During the visit, students saw the butterfly life cycle come alive right before their eyes. They shared what they already knew, asked thoughtful questions, and eagerly anticipated the moment when the butterflies would hatch. Ms. Tammy left the butterflies with the class so the students could watch them emerge and later release them on Whiting School’s property.

To make the visit even more special, Ms. Tammy gifted the class a new butterfly-themed book. The student serving as the class librarian proudly selected it for Mrs. Cataldo to read during story time.

A big thank-you to Ms. Tammy for bringing this hands-on learning experience to Whiting School!
