RDS PINWHEELS FOR PEACE 20255

Ahead of International Peace Day this weekend (September 21), students at Regional Day School (RDS) joined millions of children and adults around the world in celebrating Pinwheels for Peace. On Friday, students in the school’s physical education classes planted colorful pinwheels in the front gardens, creating a vibrant and uplifting display for all who visit.

The activity is spearheaded annually by RDS Physical Education Teacher Miss Traci Fuller to encourage students and staff to reflect on the day and the importance of peace in their lives, schools, and communities. After planting their pinwheels, students enjoyed a peaceful walk around the school’s scenic grounds, nestled in the New Jersey Pinelands, while singing songs and sharing smiles to promote peace of mind, peace in the community, and peace in the world.

Pinwheels for Peace is an international art and literacy project launched in 2005 by two Florida art teachers. Each year on September 21, students, families, and community groups across the globe design and plant pinwheels as a public visual statement about the need for peace. Today, millions of pinwheels have been planted worldwide as symbols of hope, unity, and nonviolence.

Through this creative activity, RDS students joined a global movement while also strengthening their own school community, reminding everyone who passed by that peace begins with small actions and big hearts.
