It was another perfect sunny beach day for fishing, and Regional Day School (RDS) students were all smiles as they cast their lines into the surf at Island Beach State Park.

For the 52nd year, the New Jersey Beach Buggy Association (NJBBA) hosted its National Hunting and Fishing Day celebration. This is a free event that warmly welcomes children with special needs every year. This tradition is more than just fishing; it’s about creating an unforgettable day filled with encouragement, learning, and laughter.

The NJBBA volunteers are known for their patience and kindness, taking time to work with each student one-on-one. They cheered the students on, taught them about the ocean and beach environment and the basics of fishing, and made sure the day stayed fun and exciting for everyone involved.

Students, families, and staff from RDS joined NJBBA members on OBA-2 for hours of fishing, friendship, and fun. While only a few fish were caught, the true catch of the day was the smiles, confidence, and memories made.

The day also included a shared lunch and time to relax together by the shore, giving families and staff a chance to celebrate the students’ achievements and enjoy the welcoming community spirit the NJBBA brings year after year.

National Hunting and Fishing Day is celebrated nationwide on the fourth Saturday of September, but thanks to the NJBBA, it has become a very special tradition for the RDS community. We are deeply grateful to the NJ Beach Buggy Association for their generosity, enthusiasm, and commitment to making this day a highlight for our students and families.
