On Friday evening, the Manchester Township School District (MTSD) proudly hosted its 57th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Gospel Chorus Tribute at Manchester Township High School, welcoming hundreds of attendees for an evening of reflection, unity, and powerful musical performances.

The annual celebration was highlighted by a keynote address from New Jersey Lt. Governor-Elect Dr. Dale Caldwell, who delivered an inspiring message focused on leadership, service, and Dr. King’s enduring call for hope, love, community, and peace. Prior to the program, Dr. Caldwell was welcomed by Superintendent of Schools Diane Pedroza and members of the district’s administration, who engaged in meaningful conversation and expressed their appreciation for his attendance and participation in the event.

The program opened with remarks from Superintendent Pedroza, followed by reflections from Manchester Township High School Principal and Pastor Dennis Adams, each underscoring the importance of honoring Dr. King’s legacy through faith, action, and unity.

Under the direction of Taylor Bullock, the Manchester Township Gospel Chorus delivered a moving performance featuring middle and high school students from across the district. This year’s tribute also included a special patriotic segment commemorating 250 years of the African-American experience from Manchester Township Middle School and High School Choirs, adding historical depth and significance to the program.

Founded in 1968 in the aftermath of Dr. King’s assassination, the Manchester Township Gospel Chorus is New Jersey’s only and longest-standing school-based Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. tribute of its kind. For 57 consecutive years, the chorus has remained committed to spreading Dr. King’s message of peace, justice, and love through music, bringing together students, families, and community members from all backgrounds.

The evening served as a powerful reminder of Dr. King’s enduring vision and the unifying role music continues to play in fostering understanding, acceptance, and community throughout Manchester Township.
