MTMS 250th Celebration of America

Manchester Township Middle School (MTMS) marked America’s 250th anniversary with a dynamic, schoolwide event that combined academic engagement, student performance, and community involvement. The program was designed as an immersive educational experience, with students and staff across all grade levels and subject areas contributing to a meaningful day of learning and celebration.

Special guests Jay Hershey and Edward Glidden of the New Jersey Sons of the American Revolution Color Guard Regiment visited the school to provide a historical presentation for students. Wearing period Revolutionary War uniforms, they shared insights into the era and displayed artifacts, including related supplies. Their presentation offered students a tangible connection to the history they study in the classroom.

The program also featured a formal presentation of the colors by the Manchester Township High School (MTHS) Junior ROTC Color Guard during the National Anthem, performed by the MTMS school chorus. The chorus continued with selections from Hamilton, incorporating both vocal and choreographed elements that were well received by the student body. The MTMS band followed with “America the Beautiful” along with additional patriotic selections.

Mayor Joseph Hankins attended the event and presented an official proclamation on behalf of Manchester Township, recognizing the school’s efforts to commemorate the anniversary. Mayor Hankins, who is also a member of the Sons of the American Revolution Color Guard Regiment, concluded the program by presenting the proclamation to student council representatives.
