Today, Manchester Township Middle School (MTMS) had the pleasure of welcoming incoming fifth-grade students from Manchester Township Elementary School (MTES) for a special “Buddy Day” visit, designed to help ease the transition into middle school next year. For many of these students, it was their very first time stepping inside the building, and it was an experience filled with excitement, curiosity, and a few nervous smiles.
The day began with a warm welcome from MTMS Principal Giaconia, who shared an overview of what students can expect as they move into this next chapter of their academic journey. Students had the opportunity to learn firsthand about middle school life, including presentations from both students and teachers involved in the band and chorus programs. These sessions gave visiting students a glimpse into the many opportunities available to them beyond the classroom.
In addition to exploring the arts, students were introduced to key members of the school community, including school counselors, athletic administration, and Vice Principal Mclaughlin. Each shared helpful information about support systems, extracurricular activities, and ways students can get involved and feel connected.
Following the presentations, the fifth graders broke into smaller groups and were paired with MTMS student leaders. These leaders guided them on tours throughout the building, highlighting classrooms, common areas, and important spaces they will soon become familiar with. The tours also gave visiting students a chance to ask questions and hear directly from current students about their experiences.
Overall, Buddy Day was a successful and engaging experience, helping to build excitement and confidence for the transition to middle school. We look forward to welcoming Whiting Elementary School’s 5th-grade students tomorrow for their Buddy Day experience and welcoming them all back next year as they begin this exciting new chapter!
