MTMS Tree Dedication

In a meaningful ceremony held on the Manchester Township Middle School (MTMS) campus this afternoon, students, staff, and community leaders gathered to dedicate a newly planted tree in honor of America’s upcoming 250th anniversary. The event reflects a broader district-wide initiative celebrating this historic milestone across all schools and grade levels.

The tree, now rooted on MTMS grounds beside the Tuskegee Airmen Park, stands as a living symbol of growth and remembrance. It was donated by the Ocean County Shade Tree Commission, whose ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship continues to enhance public spaces throughout the region.

Additional features of the commemorative site were made possible through generous community support. The decorative barrel was donated by The Barrel Guys NJ, the monument was provided by Heritage Monuments, and the surrounding pavers were contributed by HTJ Landscaping. Together, these elements create a lasting space designed for reflection and pride.

The ceremony was attended by local and school officials, including Manchester’s Mayor Joseph Hankins, Town Council members Sandy Drake and Judy Noonan, Michael Kelliher of the Board of Education, Superintendent of Schools Diane Pedroza, Senator Carmen Amato, Assemblyman Brian Rumpf, Manchester Township Police Department Chief Antonio Ellis and Lt. Christian Nazario. Their presence, alongside school administrators, MTMS Principal Anthony Giaconia and Vice Principal Maureen Mclughlin, as well as the teacher who organized this initiative, Mr. Robert Morris, highlighted the strong collaboration between the school district and the wider community.

"This tree is a living legacy that will grow alongside future generations of students. Today's event reminds us of the importance of honoring our nation's past while investing in its future," said Manchester Township Middle School Principal, Mr. Anthony Giaconia.

As America approaches its 250th anniversary, the dedication serves as a reminder that history is not only remembered but also actively planted and nurtured. The tree will remain on school grounds as a permanent symbol of that shared commitment.
