RELAY FOR LIFE 2026

On Friday evening, Manchester Township High School’s Relay for Life made a powerful return to the community, revived and reimagined through the dedication of two graduating seniors, Gabe Calafati & James Ruocchio, who brought the event back as part of their senior service project. What began as a shared idea rooted in personal motivation and a desire to restore a meaningful tradition quickly grew into a full-scale community effort centered on hope, remembrance, and action in the fight against cancer.

The student leaders worked for months through their leadership seminar organizing committees, coordinating logistics, and rebuilding the event from the ground up. Their vision and persistence helped transform Relay for Life into a meaningful school-wide experience once again.

On Friday night, hundreds of students, families, staff, and community members gathered on the track to walk in honor of survivors, remember those lost, and support those currently facing cancer. The evening featured performances by student guests and faculty, beginning with an opening ceremony led by Mr. Holzer’s MTHS JROTC color guard. Throughout the night, TV 21 and MTHS Talon journalists documented the event, capturing the many moments of reflection and celebration.

Behind the scenes, volunteers managed the busy registration table while Mrs. McKiernan and Mr. Fodor helped keep energy high by offering ongoing support and engagement activities. Manchester Township Police Department was also on site, ensuring a safe and well-organized evening for all attendees.

The event featured a wide range of entertainment and community involvement, including face painting, as well as field games organized with the help of the Physical Education Department, Athletic Director Chris Hoffman, and the Buildings and Grounds Department. Students and special guests, including Class President Josh Johnson and Interim Principal Alex George, also participated in the popular dunk tank, adding to the fun and community spirit.

Food trucks played a major role in the evening’s success, generously organized by Ms. Ashley Ramirez. Vendors such as Everybody Eats at Shonti’s, Rad Kitchen, Cloud Candy, and Tommy Guacs provided food and contributed donations to the American Cancer Society throughout the night. Special appreciation was also given to the Libourel family, who coordinated local food donations for volunteers, ensuring the work crew stayed energized well past midnight.

Organizers extended heartfelt gratitude to all who donated, volunteered, supported, and participated in the event, emphasizing that the evening’s success was only possible through the collective effort of the entire community. From those who formed teams and led student groups to those who walked the track in solidarity, every contribution played a role in making the night meaningful.

The revived Relay for Life proved to be an overwhelming success, raising nearly $15,000 for cancer research and support services. More than just a fundraiser, the event served as a reminder of the strength of community, compassion, and shared purpose within Manchester Township.

As MTHS NHS Advisor, Mrs. Heather Staples, reflected on the evening, one message rang clear: it truly takes a village, and Manchester Township continues to show that its village is one of the strongest there is!
