MTES students stand around a firetruck

This morning, Kindergarten classes from Manchester Township Elementary School (MTES) took a trip to the Ridgeway Firehouse. There, they learned all about fire safety and the types of equipment firefighters use during emergencies.

Students got to see the outfits that firefighters wear and hear what it sounds like when they use their masks and radios. The firefighters explained how students should not be scared if they ever see or hear this equipment during an emergency: It means they are in good hands!

Afterwards, everyone moved outside for an interactive experience with an actual firetruck and fire hose. Students had a blast (literally) practicing with the equipment under professional supervision.

Trips like this help to highlight the importance of fire prevention and the firefighters who serve our community. A special thank you to Lieutenant Chris K. and firefighters Kevin B. and Stephen N. for sharing their firehouse and teaching our students the importance of fire safety!
