RDS staff in a professional development meeting

Coming off the heels of The Week of Respect 2026 and Homecoming Weekend, students welcomed a day off to relax and recenter. However, our Manchester Township School District (MTSD) staff spent this Monday hard at work during their first Professional Development Day of the year, growing and practicing core skills that enable them to be the best version of themselves.

Educators, administrators, and support staff from each of our six schools shared this opportunity to attend a number of focused sessions ranging from updated teaching practices to emergency response, all with the shared purpose of creating a safe and sustainable learning environment for MTSD students.

At the elementary level, sessions dove into effective teaching strategies and detailed assessment tools. These are excellent resources for childhood educators and support staff to harness when building a supportive classroom environment.

Elementary school staff were also given hands-on experience using emergency equipment, going over the proper use of auto-injector devices as well as evacuation chairs. In the event of an emergency, our education professionals will be able to reflect on this training and use it to provide a quick and effective response.

Emergency training was not limited to any one grade level! At Manchester Township High School (MTHS), visiting staff from Regional Day School learned best practices in AED/CPR. This collaborative effort ensured that MTSD staff know exactly what to do, and what devices to use, when someone is experiencing a medical episode.

Sessions held at Manchester Township Middle School centered on crisis management skills, which are important in protecting both students and staff in high-stress settings. Visiting members from all schools benefited from up-to-date teachings on Crisis Prevention Intervention, ensuring that we are prepared as a district to respond to any situation.

At every level, from our high school to elementary staff, restorative practices were shared as a pathway to building empathy, safety, and inclusivity in the classroom. These sessions highlighted how revitalizing school culture is a key approach to improving the education of our students.

When we take time to invest in our staff, the benefit is passed on directly to our students. As MTSD reflects on the Power of Us this year, it is important to remember that “Us” includes many groups: students, families, educators, support staff, and administrators. When our education professionals receive the training and support they need, they become a stronger pillar to support the community at large.
