The kitchen was buzzing with excitement at Manchester Township Middle School as students put their culinary skills, creativity, and teamwork to the test during the school’s annual “Chopped” competition! This year marked a special milestone, celebrating 10 years since the event was first held in 2016.
Organized by Family and Consumer Science instructor Bella Toto, the competition featured five teams of students, each paired with a staff member to help guide them through the challenge. With access to an unlimited pantry of ingredients and their own designated cooking stations, the teams were ready to turn up the heat!

Adding to the fun, this year’s competition featured a Halloween theme, inspiring students to create dishes that were as imaginative as they were delicious. Once time was up, each team of students took a turn presenting their creation to a panel of four judges. Students described their dishes and shared the inspiration behind their culinary creations.
The judges evaluated each dish based on three criteria: taste, presentation, and creativity. After sampling the dishes, the judges took a recess to deliberate and finalize their scores. When the results were announced, they shared what they enjoyed about each team’s creation before ultimately naming Team Spice Girls the winner!

While Team Spice Girls took home the top honors, every participant deserves recognition for an outstanding effort. Students demonstrated impressive teamwork, quick thinking, and creativity while working under pressure. Their Halloween-themed dishes showcased the imagination and culinary potential of these future chefs!
Congratulations to all of the students who participated in this exciting tradition, and a special thank-you to Bella Toto, the staff chefs, and our “Chopped” judges for helping to make this milestone event a success. Here’s to 10 years of learning, teamwork, and culinary creativity at Manchester Township Middle School—and many more delicious competitions to come!
