MTPD Pizza Surprise to RES

Students in Ms. Torres' first-grade class at Manchester's Ridgeway Elementary School had a surprise from the Manchester Township Police Department (MTPD) today, who delivered a pizza lunch directly to their classroom.

The visit was inspired by Ridgeway’s “Pay It Forward” initiative. Last week, first-grader Elyse S. visited MTPD headquarters with her own thoughtful surprise, pizza for the officers, as a way of showing gratitude for their service to the community. MTPD was so touched by her kindness that they decided to “pay it back” with a pizza lunch for her entire class.

Ridgeway Elementary launched the “Pay It Forward” initiative on September 11, inspired by a classroom project from Ms. Laurie McAvoy. The effort encourages students and families to spread kindness through random acts that turn a day of national tragedy into one of compassion, community, and hope. In doing so, the initiative both honors the memory of 9/11 and empowers students to make a positive difference in the lives of others.

The Manchester Township School District (MTSD) values its strong partnership with the MTPD, and today’s exchange is a heartwarming example of how that connection directly benefits students. Through Elyse’s thoughtful act, her classmates experienced firsthand the power of kindness and community. Way to live out our school district motto, Excellence by Example!
